Advanced Microscopy Laboratory Expansion Project Kudos
Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In the July 7, 2025 issue of ORNL’s Performance Monday bulletin, GEM Technologies was recognized for excellence in execution and safety. During our work on the Advanced Microscopy Lab, Superintendent Todd Conant and the GEM team, in coordination with Barnhart Crane, devised a safe and innovative
way to move an oversized crane across White Oak Creek bridge — the only viable route to access the
worksite. It was a process that took months of planning and coordination. Once situated, the crane was used to install roof panels, a task that would not have been possible otherwise. The work was completed flawlessly and without incident.
ORNL Project Manager, Dixon Chadwick, was quoted as saying, “These aren’t everyday construction tasks, and GEM handled them exactly how we want our contractors to perform — on time, and above all, safe.”
ORNL Facilities and Operations Director, Ann Weaver, was also quoted as saying, “[GEM’s] diligence, dedication to SCoR, field presence, and partnership with our contractors is resulting in notable improvements in our safety performance.”
